Feeling Like A Cryptid
Feeling Like A Cryptid, is a series of illustrations inspired by my interest in mythology and cryptids. I’ve always felt strange or weird around others so this project not only allows me to expand my knowledge about other cryptids, but appreciate the strangeness and oddities present in our world.
Concept Illustrations
My concept illustrations, focus on how I can communicate narrative through both the character and background. These illustrations challenge me to experiment with lighting, shading and background design.
Like the character illustrations, these illustrations are inspired by character’s narrative, personality and mythology.
Comics
My comics, focus on various characters, their narrative and character interactions. Not only do they challenge my illustrating and comic skills, but my storytelling and creative writing abilities. I aim to experiment with different panel designs, lighting and atmosphere and creating distinctive character voices.
Ivor and the Lights, focuses on Ivor, a lonely narwhal mermaid Ivor is a lonely narwhal who often wondered what lies on the surface. One day, he decides to face his fear. I wanted to focus on feelings of loneliness, fear and melancholy, while exploring what happens when you push pass the anxieties.
Created during Mermay (a month long art challenge to draw mermaids in May) this short comic focuses on my mermaid characters Sunny, Mira and Kobe. When Sunny arrives with some parasites on him, Mira and Kobe accompany him to the doctor. I have a special interest in marine life and their behaviours, which inspired the main plot of this comic (specifically the Sunfish behaviour). I aimed to create a light-hearted, slice of life style story, focusing heavily on the character dynamics and personality.
